The general relative molecular weight of HPMA is 400 to 800, it is non-toxic, soluble in water, has high chemical and thermal stability, and its decomposition temperature is above 330ºC. HPMA is suitable for alkaline environments. Due to its excellent scale inhibition performance and high-temperature resistance,Hydrolyzed Polymaleic Anhydride (HPMA) is widely used in flash distillation devices for seawater desalination, low-pressure boilers, and industrial circulating cooling water. Additionally, HPMA has a certain corrosion inhibition effect, and its combined use with zinc salts results in a better corrosion inhibition effect. 
HPMA can also be used in cement admixtures and salt-alkali soil improvement agents.
