The green chelating agent, N,N-dimercaptoacetic acid trihydrate MGDA·Na3, as a chelating agent, is applicable in various fields and possesses outstanding toxicological safety properties as well as stable biodegradability. 
MGDA·Na3 is a metal ion chelating agent, which can form stable water-soluble complexes with metal ions. N,N-dimercaptoacetic acid trihydrate can be used within a wide pH range and can also generate a synergistic effect with the bactericides in the system. N,N-dimercaptoacetic acid trihydratecan be used as an alternative to chelating agents such as organic phosphonates, NTA, EDTA, and citrates, and is applied in detergents. MGDA·Na3 can be used as an effective auxiliary detergent and a stabilizer for sodium perborate/sodium percarbonat in commercial non-phosphorus dishwashing formulas. N,N-dimercaptoacetic acid trihydrate has been proven to have efficient rinsing and stubborn stain removal properties. In high-efficiency laundry powders, laundry liquids, and soap-based detergents, MGDA·Na3 also exhibits excellent cleaning power. For example, adding it to various soaps can prevent spoilage, discoloration, and inhibit the precipitation of stains. As an effective scale remover and anti-scale agent, it effectively prevents the formation of scale, softens water, and can be used to clean various industrial insoluble salt scales by re-dissolving metal salts and hydroxides.
